Graphic Novel Collection Development for Adults, Young Adults & Children

Graphic novels have become one of the hottest collection types in libraries. If you are looking for a convenient way to become more informed about how your library can have the graphic novels that your customers are looking for, please plan to attend one of these workshops!

Just some of the topics to be covered include:

  • What are the best graphic novel collection development resources for librarians?
  • How can comic book publishers help you with promoting your graphic novel collection?
  • Should you create separate graphic novel sections for adults, young adults and children in your library?
  • What is manga and which of your library’s customers would it appeal to?
  • What titles would be contained in basic graphic novel collections for schools and public libraries?

Guest Speakers:

We will have four guest speakers who are nationally recognized in the comics community. They will cover subjects that are critical to graphic novel collection development:

“What Comics Publishers Can Do For the Graphic Novel Needs of Librarians.”

John Cunnigham, Vice President, Marketing, DC Comics, New York, NY

“Manga Collection Development for Complete Newbies.”

David Inabnitt, Librarian, Brooklyn Public Library, Brooklyn, NY

“Graphic Novel Collection Development for Schools and Children’s Sections in Public Libraries.”

Sophie Brookover, Librarian, Eastern Regional Senior High School, Audubon, NJ

“Creating Your Adult and YA Graphic Novel Collection.”

Laverne Mann, Librarian, Mercer County Library, Ewing, NJ

A core collection bibliography will be supplied to all attendees. This can be used to build or augment your library’s graphic novel collection.

Morning coffee and lunch will be included on each of the workshop days.
